Back in 1974, a gallon of gas was only .55 cents, the average home cost $10,990 and Jimmy Fallon was just born.
It was also the time when an 18 year old, Lou Giroud, decided to officially launch “Lou’s Lawn Care” in March, 1974. (Check out our first business card!) Family lore marks the actual launch date as the summer of 1965 when Lou was 10 years old and started cutting lawns for 3 of his neighbors.
Starting small out of Lou Giroud’s parents’ garage, the company initially just served customers in his Huntingdon Valley neighborhood. “From the beginning, the Company’s mission has been to make customers love doing business with us,” says Lou Giroud, Founder, President. “It’s a simple idea that guides how we handle everything from a customer’s first call until after the job is done.”
Fast forward to today and travel up the road just a few miles from our original garage to see today’s Giroud Tree and Lawn. The Company has grown from a single employee serving customers from a 1956 Dodge pick-up to 38 employees, 22 trucks and a variety of specialty equipment, all housed at its headquarters in Huntingdon Valley PA
Giroud is very much a family business. Lou’s twin sons, Jeff and Matt, are in training to learn the business from the ground up. Lou’s wife, Cindy is the company’s Vice President of Marketing. Vice President and brother in law, Drew Slousky has been a core part of the company since 1977.
As the only tree and lawn company to win the Angie’s List “Super Service Award” every year since the award began in 2005, clearly Lou’s original idea of making customers love doing business with Giroud is working.
